High performance electric linear
actuators
Ultra light electrical linear actuators find a novel application
in nozzle attitude control for rocket engines of space vehicles.
The linear actuator, controlled by the inertial guidance system
of the missile, varies the attitude of the nozzle with respect
to missile axis thus holding the course and the vehicle stability
against air turbulence during the atmospheric path. |

The electric
linear actuators replace the more traditional hydraulic servo
actuators, resulting in a faster response, higher bandwidth
system.
Additional advantages are a lower mass and a simpler machanical
system. The use of electronic linear actuators improves the
launch reliability with strong atmospheric turbulence.
The electronic linear actuator developed by Phase Motion Control
for the Scout booster is capable of 26000 N thrust, 5 m/s speed
within a total mass of just 6.6 Kg. |
