AX-V:
the first open system in digital motion control.
AxV is the first realization of a novel concept in motion
control technology. AX-V is a configurable motion control
platform, based on a very fast DSP dedicated to real time
servo control application (VECON) integrated into a versatile
and innovative power control hardware. The result is a
fully configurable IGBT drive, particularly suited for
high bandwidth brushless PM motor servo control, which
can be considered a mix of digital drive, axis controller
and PLC. Adaptability:
The personality of Ax-V is determined entirely by the
software package uploaded in the platform. The default
Speed-V software turns Ax-V into a versatile, high bandwidth
brushless speed and torque control servo drive. For more
complex applications, Global PLC (GPLC)
adds IEC 1131 PLC ability to position control, in a very
fast (up to 4 kHz) frame. New application specific routines
(electronic cam, printing machines, etc) and drivers can
be uploaded any time in the future, in the field, upgrading
the product without changing the hardware. |

For multi
axis coordination, the built-in INTRADRIVE 4 Mbaud fast
serial link between drives makes generalized electric gear,
register control, coordinated power fault deceleration simple
and standard; no optional bus cards needed.
The innovative Ax-V power control
hardware is based on a fast Ac-Ac converter without power
electrolytics, yielding long life, instant availability at start-up
(no preload circuit) and a square input current waveform with
0.95 power factor. The current loop is updated at 16 kHz and
the position loop at 4 kHz, including SINCOS encoder interpolation.
Ax-V auto adapts to all line voltages from 185 Vac to 506 Vac,
and can even be fed at 24 Vdc for application debugging. The
auxiliary power supply is separated from main power for power
fail management and easy interfacing. All programmable I/Os
are 24 V PNP PLC standard compatible. |
 |
Ax-V was developed
by the designers of the Ultract II brushless servo motors,
the Wave linear motors, the TK torque rings and all other
specialty machines; consequently, Ax-V can drive optimally
both standard servos and specialty systems such as linear
motors or direct drives. All types of encoders, resolver,
Hall sensor sets are efficiently converted into absolute
position by the drive, which provides peak performance
while interfacing the SINCOS encoder supplied as a standard
in all ULTRACT II motors. The drive interpolates the encoder
readings by 214; with the standard SINCOS encoder, this
provides an actual resolution of 16 million points/rev,
much higher than the S/N ratio of the signal, for the
smoothest operation at any speed. The continuously updated,
64 bit absolute position register of the drive can be
made available to other drives via INTRADRIVE, to the
controller via the fast digital interface (counter or
encoder emulation with any emulated count), or via the
standard RS 485 serial interface or the (optional) CAN
bus. |
| The core
of the drive provides general encoder processor, current
loop and protection processor, position loop feedback,
and on line trajectory generation for point to point indexing.
All these functions can be used by a PLC user, or can
be accessed easily with the default SPEED-V software which
turns Ax-V into a ready to use, turn key digital drive.
All Ax-V registers are permanently stored in flash memory
and can be accessed and handled via the COCKPIT configuration/monitoring
tool. Parameters can be grouped and access can be restricted
by multi level passwords, for example, for maintenance,
installation, etc. Parameter sets can be read from a drive
and duplicated, stored and retrieved. COCKPIT can control
up to 64 drives at the same time via the RS 485 serial
interface. |

 |
| Control Panel and Monitor
functions ensure an easy application setup with
no wiring and tools, by creating a "virtal
test setup" around the drive. |

No
limits to your application expertise
Merge your application expertise with the power control
hardware and create a dedicated automation product...
your product!
The Ax-V is supplied with the proprietary GPLC environment.
With GPLC, you can create your PLC application and merge
it with motion, force, sensor feedback tasks. |
You can
use the analog and digital I/Os of each drive to interface
with the machine, to read sensors, to compare at high
speed with motor position, torque or speed; you can perform
timing and mathematical calculations. Once programmed,
the drive + PLC can be controlled either by analog and
digital terminals, or by any operator panel via the MODBUS
or Slink-3 RS 485 protocols. Your application can be password
protected and will convert the AX-V into a dedicated system,
which cannot be emulated by anybody else; this way, your
technology expertise investment is protected.
The GPLC environment runs the IEC 1131 instruction set
on two tasks running at different speeds; a fast task,
running at 4 kHz, dedicated to synchronization and motion
control, and a slow task, running at 125 Hz, for all other
functions. The program complexity is only limited by the
available memory (currently 64 Kbyte of program memory
all flash) and by execution timing.
A library of existing function blocks is available and
growing in the Phase Motion Control website and can be
downloaded freely. Possible applications include electric
camshaft, motion profile function generation, interfacing
of index coded absolute encoders, rotary transfer tables
with digital addressing and auto direction search, intelligent
tool changers, tapping drive with auto reverse, coordinated
wire guide/drum guide in winding machines, tape winding/unwinding
with tension control and more. |
